Well! Today I got a call from another lady, asking me to come in and be interviewed on Friday. And so I shall. But I will also do three hours of this more casual job I picked up yesterday.

It's SO EASY!!! The pay isn't too good, but who cares? I helped out a really nice girl who was running a party for a bunch of five year olds. Piece of cake. The boss there said to me "Sorry about that. Generally, that's about as difficult as they get." She later said it was a shame my first go was with such a difficult bunch of kids (and a bit of a scary anal Mum).

It's generally EASIER than that. What's more, she's understaffed. You mean... that normally more people would be on to cover everything? Um... Wow!!!

I've never had any job but my old one. Turns out you can go and do your shift without being emotionally invested. Turns out there are jobs where your mobile doesn't go off hourly so someone can ask you questions you've answered fifteen times over.

Also... kids RULE!!! She says to me "Kate, can you go and shout at those kids not to climb up the sides of the jumping castle."

Uh oh, thinks I, for authority has never been my strong point. But I go up to these kids and I shout "Hey!" and clap my hands. All seven kids look at me.

"Right! I need two things from everyone on this castle. One, don't climb up the walls. Two, can you all pick up one or two balls and run them back to the ball-pit."

They not only obliged me, they LIKED DOING IT. I ASKED THEM TO DO SOMETHING AND THEY DID IT!!! Picking up balls, they thought, let's do it! They all grabbed some balls and raced them back to the ball pit.

What the hell?

Kids will just... listen to you. I had experienced this in small doses with my cousins and other children I've come into contact with. But just... wow!!!

On Saturday, I will be supervising a party for a little boy turning three. Some people would scream at the thought but I can't think of anything easier. I have to blow up some balloons, reassure the parents, help out with food, pouring drinks and such. What does she tell me on the phone this arvo? "You can just go on the equipment with the kids if you want."

WHAT? WHAT? YOU WILL GIVE ME MONEY FOR THIS??? You will pay me to play in that ball pit and go down the slide?

Something has to be wrong here... this can't possibly be right. It's too good.

ETA: Oh yeah... next year she's thinking of having party-staff wear costumes for a bit of fun. Fairies and superheroes or whatever...
WHAT??? WHAT??? Dress as a fairy? FOR MONEY???

It seems that you like wielding power.

Good to hear you have found a job that you like/can do. Jobs are... funny. Most people bemoan the one they have, but to be without one... is horrid and not just for financial reasons. It's nice to have a job, to do something, to have a reason to get out of bed.
yeah, nice.
