Interests Meme

skudge has decreed and I must obey!

Comment on this post. I will choose seven interests from your profile and you will explain what they mean and why you are interested in them. Post this along with your answers in your own journal so others can play along.

Here are my explanations of the seven interests chosen by skudge.

Sustinare Ridiculum
This is Latin for "to uphold the absurd". I was invited to join this lovely subsection of of society by some delightful people: pineapples with legs, a monkey in a hat, a troupe of travelling ninja ballerinas, a person who may or may not enjoy the consumption of buns, a pokemon with impeccable taste and many more. We of Sustinare Ridiculum reside in Camelalot, where we are known collectively as loons. Visit me there at your own peril and beware Flossie, the belligerent three headed newt. And maybe give the Personification of the Themesong From Titanic a quick kick up the arse. He does enjoy it so.

Shiny things
Come now! What is not to adore about shiny things. I like bright colours, sparkles, flashing lights and anything else that looks pretty or shiny. The exception to the shiny things rule, of course, is metal. I do not like THAT at all.

Puppets!!! Muppets! Hand puppets! Marionettes! Finger puppets! Shadow puppets! Stick puppets! I love puppets in every form they take. A corner of my room contains two boxes of resources for constructing puppets whenever I feel like doing so, generally on a whim. My mother has recently given me a large pile of her discarded socks, so I am very excited to begin work on converting them into colourful characters. Some of them even have spots! I'm also very slowly working on a tribe of stick-mice.

A disability of the central nervous system. It's similar to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, if you've heard of that. The fibromyalgia is what makes me so tired all the time. It also causes me to have "fibrofogs", where I become confused or disoriented. Sometimes my short term memory is not too good. When I record in my LJ that "my legs were bad today", that's referring to the muscle pain. Fibro affects your sleep, so that sufferers do not experience the refreshing stage 4 sleep that repairs muscles and recharges you for the next day. There are all sorts of related problems caused by this tired body and brain, some of which I have, some of which I don't.

Dual Flush Toilets
I am actually interested in toilets of all kinds, though I have a particular fascination for the dual flush variety. The calendar on my wall depicts artistic and antique toilets through the ages. As thingwithtrees knows well, my postcards home tend to describe the local public toilet facilities. I understand from the maternal unit that I have always been slightly obsessed with toilets. Not with bodily functions, defecation or anything. Just... toilets. Go figure.

Big Words
I like to think that I bring lexicographic variety to the world. I work hard towards the addition of new words to my personal vocabulary. To regular followers of this web-log, it has likely not escaped your attention that I oftentimes prefer to use a word of a greater length (and consequently a grander air) over a more commonly-used term. My fondness for words of considerable length also extends to entire sentences and even paragraphs, as I take pleasure in making these as long as I am able, frequently attempting to evoke the works of old, when authors had very little interest in the use of full-stops (also known as periods) and in some extraordinary cases even commas which are such an inherently useful device for the punctuation of sentences that it comes as quite a surprise that so many of those who write are not inclined to use them.

Arm Punches
Surprisingly, this is the only LorF reference in the list. Arm punches are a sign of enormous affection within the Australian Liberation Army, the organisation led by my alter ego over at life_or_freedom. You've got to have tough shoulders and a good punching arm to join the ALA.

Okay. Who wants a turn?
