Today's Essay

Well... ya'll know the drill by now. I'm getting a late start.

It's 12:03. 2500 words on the Family First Campaign during the 2004 election, by 4:00 (5 at the outside...) Piece. Of. Cake.

All: I bet she's gone insane by 1:15.

Very possibly. Let's GO!

12:13: My Plan, FYI:

The Aims of the Campaign and what FF hoped to achieve
Where the money came from (You'd be amazed...)
The preference dealing
The Anti-Green nature of the FF Campaign
The way FF played down their religious associations
The results of the campaign, and how this related to the original aims
500 words for intro and conclusion. So... 2000 words divided by 5 paragraphs equals 400 words each. Like I said... Piece. Of. Cake.

All: Have you ever considered just sitting down and writing an essay? Must you obsess so much by dividing it into easy to digest chunks?

Yes. I must.

12:38: I'm having a bad hair day. 172 words, so I'm headed to the bathroom with my hairbrush. I'm sure I'll concentrate better with nice hair.

All: That is the biggest crock of...

Shut up! *pats hair defensively*

12:44 My hair looks good. First paragraph is only 229 words. Oh... I'm sure I can make it up elsewhere, anyway.

1:55 669 words. But I got highly distracted by my journey through the Australian Electoral Commissions various disclosure reports.

Did You Know?
A Fun Fact by Kayt Sel Liantuy.

When you shop Gloria Jeans, you're shopping Family First. Seriously. You wouldn't know that unless you'd spent a goodly amount of time researching. But you are...
I'm still gonna drink their iced-chocolates, though.

2:45: My paragraphs aren't as long as they're supposed to be. I'm being punished for succinctness again. 3 paragraphs. 1048 words. Where's the time going??? Just over an hour left? What the hell?

Okay. Time to start on the anti-Green ad campaign. The Greens sell heroin to babies and superglue puppies to the ceiling.

That's not Green, Bob. That's Extreme.

What am earth am I going to say about it all???

2:48: Hang on. I have SIX paragraphs. That means they only need to be 333 words each. On target then. ABOVE target. Phew. Doesn't explain where the time went, though...

3:22: 1427 words. Still 1000 to go? You must be JOKING!!!! Grrr...

4:18: 2497 words. Near enough is good enough! Bibliography, then it's in the box, and I'm off home!

I fully understand the importance of chunks, good Kayt. It makes it so much easier to do if you think of writing five longish paragraphs, rather than two and a half thousand words.

Good luck with the essay!

Gloria Jeans is owned by Hillsong - the gigantic christian record label, although family first members prob listen to hillsong the party doesn't own it.

Really? Why do I never know the interconnectedness of things?

Gloria Jeans is not owned by Hillsong. That's the misconception.

The francise rights to Gloria Jeans are owned by a company called Jireh International. The owners of Jireh International are members of the Hillsong Congregation, and one of them is on the board of directors of the Assemblies of God. That's not the same as Hillsong "owning" GJ's.

What is concerning, however, is that Jireh International gave $10 000 to a group called Families Australia who then passed that money on to the Family First Party to contribute to their 2004 election campaign.

Everyone should spend a few productive hours trawling Financial Reciept Forms at the AEC website and then googling the names...

Hillsong also has a hip christian version of the tv show Punk'd where they play horrible tricks on christian people on christian television - gotta love the irony.
