Essay Again

I know how you all enjoy my essay-update journal entries.

All: Oh yes. We live for them.

Don't be cheeky! Anyway. Here is one. It is now 8:52. I intend to start work at 9:00, and by 3:00, I hope to have a fully edited 2000 word answer to the following question:

"Why does the spectre of terrorism currently dominate international politics when there are so many more devestating causes for insecurity?"

Why indeed?
Now this is an essay for the psychotic lecturer who think she's the boss of me, and says I'm not allowed to write me essay the night before it's due.

Well... I've already missed that deadline, crazy lady! I intend to write it the day it's due and there's nothing NOTHING you can do to stop me!!! Muahahahahaha!!! I've done all the research, I have a fairly good idea where I'm going. I tried to make a start at home yesterday, but I'd forgotten there's a very good reason I don't do work at Chateau l'Grandma. Can't concentrate on a bally thing.

I'd also like to get some LorF up today. I'm on a roll right now, so expect LorFness, those of you who are interested.
Oh, and flippyfrog, you might want to put your 2x4 on standby, I think. Sorry... but you can't expect poor old Kate to come out of her self-hating reverie that quickly...

It's 8:58. I shall begin my essay plan.

Wish me Luck!!!

9:41: I'm 10% finished. Just thought I'd point that out. Gah! It's going to be a long day!

11:34: Well... I have 1105 words. But I've run out of things to say. Of course, an intro and conclusion needs to be added, so that's 500 odd words right there. But there's no 10% margin here... So that still leaves me 400 words short. GAH!!! GAH!!! GAH!!!

11:55: Explanatory footnotes kick arse.
I need another 641 words now. Does anyone think I can write an intro and conclusion of 321 words each? That's my challenge. Go me!

All: This is not the best way to go about writing an essay.

Tell me about it. Still... nothing like a challenge, hey what? And I've been doing my bibliography as I go, btw. So that's a weight off...

12:41: 1944 words... bugger it. I'll just find somewhere to put an unneccesary explanatory footnote. Again, I believe I'm being punished for my natural ability to be so concise! That's my story, and dammit, I stand by it!!! I'll read it over one more time. Then I'll take a break and do some LorFing. Then I'll come back and read it again. I'll need to spend at least a little time out of the "Essay" space, before I re-read, and LorF is the perfect distraction. (And fun too!)

3:04: It's printed. It's saved for safekeeping. It's ready to go. With 56 minutes to spare. And on top of that, I've written my next LorF entry, but I'm not entirely happy with it... Still! Go me!!! I'll let you know if the psycho lecturer figures out that I wrote it all today... Bet she doesn't...

Ten percent is good! Think of it as a hundred percent improvement on what you had before. You always have to be positive with essays, or you'll sink into a pit of despair and procrastinate endlessly.

I really wish I didn't have a two thousand word essay due next Wednesday. There are no good articles on the conscription referenda held during 1915-1917! Not a single one, I tell you.

Remember - no LorF 'til you've done your essay. :D

But... but... the LorFness...

Bun, i had that problem too! Usually i found all my stuff hidden in the articles written on the PM at the time... which i can't remember his name... William is jumping out at me, but i don't think that's right... :S tells you how much attention i paid to THAT topic...

and Kayt, gah! i pull off all nighters and the day before stuff all the time, but never in four hours. it takes me at least 8....

maybe i should start writing them two days before instead of the night... bah, not at uni at the moment, shan't care :P

Good Luck on your own assignments! Keep reaching for that potato!

So if there's no 10% margin, you have to have 2000 words OR ELSE?
Sep. 30th, 2005 02:01 am (UTC)
It's actually 2000-2500 words. But I knew I'd never make the 2500, so I'm calling it 2000 words.

Interesting topic, at least. Good luck.

I don't think I'd be capable of writing an essay in a day. I always envied my old housemates who could pull an all-nighter, churn off a 2000 word essay and get a decent mark, when I had to spend at least three evenings on it.

I actually prefer to do it all in one go. I find it makes me more focused on the task, and gets better results.

Each to their own, I guess.

This is how I write my essays too. If I write them over time, they get really disjointed. That's my excuse and I'm stickign to it. It has nothign to do with the fact that I alwasy leave everythign till the last minute.

What school are you writing in? Because I'm having trouble with the concept of footnotes as part of the wordcount... *mind boggles.*

Good luck, anyway. And I completely disbelieve in the ability of markers to tell that an essay has been written the night before. The best comments (and possibly the best mark, but I can't remember because I was so chuffed at the comments) I ever got on an essay were for 2500 words I'd written between 5pm and 7am of the night before...
Sep. 30th, 2005 04:06 am (UTC)
Only explanatory footnotes count. It just says so in the essay guidelines for the course, so I'm going with it!

And yes. The psycho lecturer is full of it. There's no WAY she'll be able to tell. Silly bint!
Sep. 30th, 2005 05:01 am (UTC)
Wow... After reading that I feel a bit motivated to start my own essay. Imagine if I could get it all done by tonight. I'm so jealous you can write and essay in 4 hours.
Sep. 30th, 2005 05:08 am (UTC)
Ah, yes. But it's not a very good one.
Sep. 30th, 2005 09:00 am (UTC)
your explanatory footnotes count as words toward the total!!!

*eyes widen in shock*

God I wish I had that standard!!

* goes off to continue her own doomed 3500 word essay on the renaissance - art of the restoration period in England.*
