The human brain is an odd odd thing.

Imagine for a moment that you are pissed off with a friend. We shall call him Bob.

You know why you're pissed at Bob, you're pissed because, um... he stole your eraser.

But WHY is the stolen eraser making you this angry. I mean, sure, its rude and inconsiderate, but that's no reason to be thinking about having him murdered.

Anyway, that's my dillemma for the day. I'm mad at someone, and I know what they did to make me mad, I just don't know WHY it's annoying me to this extent. I mean, just get over already, Me! For crying out loud, it's not worth getting so worked up about!

Maybe I'm just a bitch today.

Anyway, does anyone know why we can be mad at someone at the same time as we're telling ourselves how petty and stupid we're being? Why the hell is the brain designed to do something so hopelessly counterproductive and silly?

There's a major design flaw somewhere.

Embrace your irrationality... and then when it's really close, STAB IT TO DEATH!!

In other words, I have no idea why we can be feeling something so strongly on one level whilst at the same time, we examine it from a more objective level. It's just odd.

It is. It's not just anger either. Many's the time I've heard someone tell me "I love him, but he's SUCH a jerk."

The rational brain is just not connected with everyone else.

i think someone smart once said pobody's nerfect! Then they realised what they said then changed it to nobody's perfect. I think that include's brains as well...'think of them like men, no-one can understand them. We can try, but we shall only succeed when we become God.' (my cousin told me once, though I don't think we where talking about brains in particular this saying has always come in handy)

Hehe.

Panic not! You are not the offending person!

Mind you, the person who offended me isn't at fault either, really.

But rest assured, you're not the person I'm mad at.

I often find if I write a long and hopelessly introspective ranty (private) diary entry, I find out what they did means something different to me than the obvious... Did that get too involved to make sense? Often it's something trivial, but it symbolises something NOT trivial, or it's an example of something bigger, or something someone else did once, or... well, anyway, that it's not really about the eraser as such.

Ah!!!

Like, the stealing of the eraser is simply a symptom of Bob's inconsiderate behaviour. And it's THAT, not the eraser itself that is pissing you off.

Yeah, that makes total sense.
